Amarillo, TX 5/14/10- The Amarillo Venom will seek their first Lonestar West Division title and a playoff spot with a win or a West Texas loss this Saturday when the San Angelo Stampede Express visit the Amarillo Civic Center at 7pm CST.
Amarillo (7-1) suffered their first defeat of the season last week in Corpus Christi 34-24. Running back Sha-Ron Edwards carried the ball 10 times (most since week one) for 40 yards and a touchdown and has scored at least once in each of his six games with the Venom (eight total). Linebacker Cedric Wilson anchors a Venom defense who has allowed the least amount of points in the IFL (282) with a team-leading 36.5 tackles. Armed with a resurgent special teams unit, the Venom has returned a kickoff for a touchdown in back-to-back games, while the field goal unit has gone 2-for-2 on field goal attempts 31 yards or fewer.
San Angelo (7-2) begins a stretch of two straight road games in Amarillo Saturday. The Stampede Express has won three games in a row and seven of their last eight. During the winning streak, running back Derrick Ross totaled seven touchdowns and leads San Angelo in total yards (569) and total touchdowns (18). In their three road wins, San Angelo has defeated their opponents by an average of over 24 points per game.
