Calgary Roughnecks News Release
Captain Tracey Kelusky made his return to the Roughnecks line-up and led the his team back into the win column with a 13-12 victory over divisional rivals the Vancouver Ravens in front of a season high crowd of 11,659. In a much anticipated back and fourth contest between two potent offensive clubs, it was a story of defence and goaltending in the end.
Roughnecks goaltender Curtis Palidwor and Vancouver's Dwight Maetche went save for with each other with Palidwor turning away 37 of 49 shots and Maetche answering with 34 saves on 47 Roughneck shots.
Vancouver lifted Maetche for the extra attacker with a minute remaining, but Palidwor stood his ground and turned away three Vancouver shots in the final minute.
Roughnecks forward Jason Wulder was outstanding for the locals continuing his season long strong play potting a pair of goals and adding four assists in the Roughnecks win.
"The boys really played strong in front of me tonight, they kept the middle clear and punished Vancouver's forwards in tight," said Palidwor.
Kelusky provided a calming presence for the Roughnecks taking control of an offence he led for the first two games of the season putting up a goal and three helpers.
"Tracey stepped right back in where he left off, but tonight was a team win and I'm very proud of the way our guys played." said Roughnecks coach Chris Hall.
The Roughnecks now head to Vancouver for the second game of this home and home series on Sunday at G.M. Place. The game will be broadcast (tape-delayed) on Rogers SportsNet West Sunday evening at 10:00pm MST.
