Toronto Rock News Release

(Toronto, Ontario) – Friday January 31, 2003 – Lack of penalties has been the major issue this week in the NLL. After a weekend of physical full of intense games the Rock travels to Philadelphia to take on the Wings. The referee's will need to get into the game early and set the tone. There is no love loss between the teams but the Rock are on top 8-3 in the series and playing at the First Union Centre is no easy task.

Kevin Finneran returns to his hometown for the first time since leaving in mid-December. Finneran spent the last 10 seasons with the Wings, before moving to Toronto. "It will be interesting to see how the fans perceive my return, I have no bad feelings for the city or the team. I just had to make a move that was a career decision not a personal one" said Finneran on his return. Last season the Rock lost their season finale in Philly 12-11, that gave the Wings team a birth into the playoffs, a loss that needs to be avenged.

"When you play the Wings and they're on the road, they come out tough and ready to play. But when they play at home it is like they develop a new sense of character and play a new kind of game, a game that is very physical and at times cheap" said Rock defender, Glenn Clark.

The Rock is 4-2 in the standings and finds them in the midst of a three-game winning streak. The Wings on the other are 1-2, coming off their first win of the season against the Colorado Mammoth. But the Wings have retooled their team, going a bit younger and physical.

Colin Doyle has been the player to watch as he picks apart the Wings defense with 20 goals and 20 assists in their 11 meetings.
