EVANSVILLE, Ind. - The Lake Erie Crushers surrendered 16 runs on 14 hits on Wednesday afternoon at Bosse Field and fell to the Evansville Otters, 16-7.

The Crushers (8-9) have now lost their last three on the road, while the victory for the Otters (9-8) was their seventh in their last nine at home.

Lake Erie homered three times on the afternoon and took an early lead in the top of the first inning when Jackson Valera belted a RBI single to center to score Kenen Irizarry. Kokko Figueiredo blasted his first homer of the year later in the inning to give the Crushers a 2-0 lead.

Dakota Phillips put the Otters on the board in the bottom of the second with a solo homer to right, before Evansville plated seven runs in the third inning to take the lead. Zach Biermann brought in the first run on a sacrifice fly. Jeffrey Baez smacked a RBI double to left before Steven Sensley was walked with the bases loaded. Elijah MacNamee then hit a bases clearing triple and he came around to score on Miles Gordon's three bagger to right. Gordon scored the final run of the inning on Andy Armstrong's single to center.

The Crushers hit two more homers to eventually pull within a pair of runs. Danny Perez belted his first homer of the season in the top of the fourth inning, a three run shot to right field. In the fifth, Connor Owings hit a two run blast to right and the Crushers were within two (9-7).

Evansville went on to score the last seven runs of the game. Gordon stroked a run scoring single in the bottom of the fifth, before the Otters plated three more runs in the bottom of the seventh, which was highlighted by a two run homer from Gary Mattis. The Otters added three more in the eighth.

Jacob Bowles (1-1) picked up the win in relief for the Otters, allowing a pair of runs on two hits over four innings. Kaleb Schmidt (0-3) took the loss, allowing nine runs, eight earned on six hits over three innings.

Valera led the way for Lake Erie offensively, going 3-for-5, while Owings hit safely twice. Figueiredo's homerun extended his on base streak to 17 games.

The Crushers will finish their series with the Evansville Otters at Bosse Field on Thursday night. Brock Begue (0-1) will get the start for the Crushers. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:35 PM.
