Roster Set for Opening Night

[Macon Ga.]-With training camp over, Macon Trax Head Coach Tommy Stewart has announced his opening night roster. The roster features names and faces familiar to many of the Trax fans on the 16 man roster.

On opening night, seven players who have worn a home sweater in Middle Georgia before will take the ice. The home town list includes Captain Jeff Antonovich and Goalie Geoff Faulkner who are quite happy to be back in Macon.

“It is great to be back in Macon.” Antonovich said, “It is a great honor to be the team’s captain in a town where we have the best fans.”

Besides the faces that have worn Macon sweaters, fans will see a few more familiar faces who were opponents at the Centreplex last season. Steve Zoryk and John Gurskis both played in the ACHL last year for Knoxville and Winston-Salem respectively. Both men were captains for their teams and will play key roles for the Trax this season.

“John and Steve will be big parts of this team.” Stewart said, “John is one of my two player assistants and Steve is an assistant captain for us.”

The roster break down:

Goalies-Faulkner, Andy Kollar

Defensemen-Mike Bujdo (IR), Bobby Clouston, Max Graupner, Steve Howard, Andrew Katzberg, Art Mnatsakanov, Darwin Murray

Forwards-Antonovich, David Deeves, John Gurskis, Craig Miller, Luke Murphy, Ryan Rivard, Jamie VanHoof (IR), Edan Welch, Steve Zoryk

The Macon Trax will open their season versus the Lakeland Loggerheads in Florida on Nov. 6th. The puck drops on the first ever WHA2 game at 7:05 pm. All WHA2 games will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.

Do not forget to get your tickets now for the Trax home opening weekend. The home opener is Saturday, Nov. 22 versus the Alabama Slammers. The game starts at 7:35 pm. Get there early to get your Burger King magnet schedule!
