WHA2, Charities Prep for Opening Night

CELEBRATION, Fla. – The World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) today announced that several charities will join WHA2 teams at their home openers.

The American Cancer Society, Hockey4Kids, United Way of America, Drug Abuse Resistance Education (D.A.R.E.), Association of Retarded Citizens, Children's Miracle Network, American Red Cross, American Lung Association, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Make-A-Wish Foundation, American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, and Greyhound Pets of America will all be present to share information and be a part of opening night festivities in each of the cities that are a part of the WHA2.

"It has always been important to us to be good citizens in our communities and help local charities." WHA2 Chairman of the Board of Governors David Waronker said. "Opening night is always a big event and we wanted to allow charities to be a part of the celebration and be able to share information with our fans."

Waronker has also personally purchased over 200 tickets to each team's home opener to donate to charity.

"The response from the charities to participate in our opening night was overwhelming." WHA2 Director of Community Relations Jenn Green said. "All of the charities will have information tables and chances to donate. Some of the charities dealing with animals will even have pets that are looking to be adopted."

The WHA2 season opens tomorrow as the Macon Trax take on the Lakeland Loggerheads in Lakeland at 7:05pm. The Alabama Slammers open at home on November 7. The Miami Manatees and Orlando Seals will play their first home game on November 8. The Macon Trax take the ice at the Macon Centreplex on November 22. The Jacksonville Barracudas will debut in the brand-new, state-of-the-art Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Auditorium on November 28.

The WHA2 will ice six teams for the 2003 – 2004 season: the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals. Each team will play a 60-game schedule beginning on November 6th. Every game will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
