
Roosters rally falls short

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters dropped their fifth straight Thursday night with a 7-6 loss to the Washington Wild Things in the first game of a three-game series. The Wild Things scored the first seven runs of game and the Roosters scored the next six, but fell short by a run.
The Wild Things got one run in the first, coming on a groundout, but scored five runs in the second to jump out to a 6-0 lead. Patrick O'Brien hit a solo homer to left and Lance Koenig hit a sacrifice fly to center, but Washington scored two more runs on three errors to put Richmond behind early. The Wild Things added another run in the fifth, but the Roosters rallied in their half of the fifth by scoring six runs. The first four batters reached base and Washington committed two errors, but the big hit came on a three-run homer by Dick Daly, Jr. over the fence in right-center to get the Roosters to within a run at 7-6.
Richmond was held scoreless through last four innings however, and the Wild Things held on to the one run margin. Brendon Davis (8-1) gave up six runs in five innings but earned the win. Stephen Spragg (11) pitched three innings to get the save. Mike Cervera (1-2) threw 4 1/3 innings in the loss. Kris Regas pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief for Richmond and did not give up a run,
The Roosters and Wild Things will hook up again on Friday for the second game of the series. The first pitch will be thrown at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Pat Kohorst (0-1, 3.60 ERA) will make his third start for Richmond against J.D. Cockroft (4-4, 5.06 ERA) of Washington.
