South Carolina Stingrays News Release
North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that the team has agreed to terms with forward Marc Hagel. In keeping with club policy, details of the agreement were not disclosed.
Hagel, 25, enters his first full professional season after skating six games with the Lake Erie Monsters of the American Hockey League last season adding two assists. The Hamilton, Ontario, native joined the Monsters upon completion of his college season at Miami University (Ohio) recording 19 points (six goals, 13 assists) in 42 games. Hagel transferred to the RedHawks after graduating from Princeton University, but dressed in only three seasons, taking a medical redshirt his junior year and leaving him one year of eligibility. With the Tigers, the Hagel totaled 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists) in 92 contests, served as team captain in 2011-12 and skated with Stingrays defenseman Derrick Pallis from 2008-12.
Before college, the 6-foot, 196-pound forward played three seasons of junior hockey in the OPJHL with the Oakville Blades alongside Stingrays forward Lindsay Sparks and Hamilton Red Wings burying 42 goals and 87 assists for 129 points in 120 total games. Hagel's older brother, Kyle, competed in the Phoenix Coyotes (NHL) training camp this summer and will start the upcoming season with their AHL affiliate, the Portland Pirates. In five professional campaigns, Kyle acquired over 160 games of AHL experience with Rockford, Peoria and Hamilton and 80 games in the ECHL with Fresno, Reading and Las Vegas.
