Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces have agreed to terms with veteran free agent forward Peter Sivak (See-VACK), Aces head coach Rob Murray announced today.
"Throughout his career, Peter Sivak has proven to be a difference maker and a tremendous offensive addition," said Murray. "His elite skill set can take a team's offense to the next level, whether at even strength or on the power play. Finding a player with his finishing ability was a high priority of ours during the offseason and we're excited to think how much he can contribute."
Sivak, 31, heads to Alaska after burying 33 goals (5th, ECHL) last season and leading the San Francisco Bulls with 56 points (33g-23a) in 64 games. His 21 power play points, six game winning goals and 266 shots led the Bulls, who clinched a playoff berth in their inaugural season and were eliminated by the Aces in the opening round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.
Sivak, who had three points (1g-2a) in three playoff games, also posted a six game goal-scoring streak (seven goals in that span from Jan. 4-20) which was tied for the longest in the ECHL. He finished three goals behind Aces forward Nick Mazzolini, who was tied for second in ECHL goal scoring.
The 5-foot-11, 179-pound forward carries six games of regular season experience in Sullivan Arena after he managed four points (3g-1a) and a game winning goal in overtime with the Bulls last season. Sivak also earned his first career call-up to the American Hockey League on Mar. 20, 2013 with the Worcester Sharks and earned four goals and one assist in nine AHL games.
"Choosing to play for Alaska was the right decision for me because it's an exciting opportunity to play with great players and win a championship," said Sivak. "I remember last season's challenge of having to face an excellent team like the Aces. But now that I get to become one of them, I'm looking forward to it because we share the same goal of achieving excellence."
The Slovakian native previously skated in 576 career games in the Slovakian and Czech Extraliga leagues, amassing 232 points (110g-122a). Prior to joining San Francisco, he paced MsHK Zilina in Slovakia with 51 points (21g-30a) in 55 games, finishing the 2011-12 season tied for sixth in league scoring behind experienced NHL forwards such as Ziggy Palffy and Miroslav Satan.
Sivak also set the league record for fastest goal to start a game (4.08 seconds), occurring in the first period against HK Poprad on Jan. 18, 2012.
Aces training camp information for the 2013-14 season will be announced soon.
The Aces will begin their 2013-14 season at home on Friday, Oct. 18 at Sullivan Arena when they host the San Francisco Bulls. Season ticket and sponsorship packages are currently available through the Aces office at 15th & Gambell.
