Lexington Legends News Release

The Rome Braves used a stellar pitching performance from Caleb Brewer to defeat the Lexington Legends 6-3 Friday night in front of 4,437 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Brewer (2-2) pitched eight innings, allowed two runs on three hits, and struck out seven batters. He gave up a lead-off walk to Delino DeShields Jr. in the bottom of the first inning, but did not allow another base runner until Enrique Hernandez singled with two outs in the fifth.

Rome took the lead in the top of the first inning. Christian Bethancourt singled with one out, and after David Rohm flied out, Evan Gattis doubled to drive in Bethancourt.

The Braves added to their lead in the fourth. With one out, Jakob Dalfonso and Edward Salcedo singled, and Chris Garcia's double scored both runners. Garcia advanced to third when Jarred Frierson reached on an error, and scored when Bobby Rauh reached on a fielder's choice, giving Rome a 4-0 lead.

Rome added two more in the fifth on a double by Gattis and a home run by Dalfonso, who has homered in each of the first three games of the series. Lexington broke through against Brewer in the eighth. Mike Kvasnicka singled to lead off the inning, and with one out, Jhonny Medrano hit his first home run of the year to cut the lead to 6-2.

The Legends scored their final run in the ninth. Delino DeShields Jr. reached on an error by Salcedo, moved to second on a passed ball, to third on after a fly out, and scored on a wild pitch.

Legends starter Carlos Quevedo (4-2) took the loss, allowing six runs, five earned, in five innings.

The Legends have won two out of three in the series, which concludes Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.
