Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - For the first time since they started out the year 1-0, the Lakewood BlueClaws will wake up on Saturday and find themselves with a record over .500. It was a fantastic game all around for the BlueClaws as they got a great start from Mario Hollands, some fantastic defense behind him, and a perfect final 2 innings to close it out by Lisalberto Bonilla in the 3-0 win over the Greensboro Grasshoppers. Plus, there was a great crowd of 6,016 in attendance to kick off the Memorial Day Weekend.

The Opening Day starter for Lakewood this year was Mario Hollands, and Friday night he showed why. He was nearly untouchable against the Grasshoppers throwing 7 shutout innings and allowing just 3 hits, walking 2, and striking out 3. Then Lisalberto Bonilla came in and shut the door on Greensboro throwing 2 perfect innings and picking up his 2nd save of the season. The BlueClaws played some fantastic defense behind both of them turning some dazzling plays all ballgame long.

Offensively the Blueclaws were paced by Geancarlo Mendez and Jim Murphy. Mendez went 2-4 with a 2-run HR that put the BlueClaws up 2-0 in the 3rd inning. Then, in the 8th inning Murphy hit the longest HR of the season so far at FirstEnergy Park for his 12th HR of the year to make it 3-0 which was the final score. The ball hit the Paymedia Sign in Left Centerfield on the fly.

Saturday night the same two teams will be back at it for the 4th and final game of the 4 game series with First Pitch scheduled for 7:05 pm. RHP David Buchanan will start for Lakewood, and RHP Kyle Winters will do the same for Greensboro. Buchanan leads the South Atlantic League in ERA at 2.21 and sports a 6-2 record on the year. Winters has been very good himself as he is 5-2 with a 3.98 ERA. There will be post-game fireworks following the game thanks to Toyota/Scion World of Lakewood.
