Hickory Crawdads News Release
HICKORY, NC - The Hickory Crawdads fell to the Charleston RiverDogs, 6-3, before 2,552 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium on Friday night.
The RiverDogs (21-27) got on the board quickly against RHP Cody Buckel, as 1B Kyle Roller knocked a two-run homer in the top of the first to put Charleston ahead, 2-0. Buckel, however, did not allow another tally through the rest of his four-inning outing, giving the 'Dads a chance to come back.
Hickory (26-21) started the comeback in the bottom of the second against RHP Jose Ramirez (W, 2-1). With two away and the bases clear, 2B Alejandro Selen kept the inning going with a double. He quickly came in on an RBI single by 3B Jonathan Roof, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
The 'Dads kept swinging away, completing the comeback with a pair of solo home runs in the third and fifth innings to take their first lead of the contest. LF Teodoro Martinez tied the game with his solo shot in the bottom of the third, before SS Jurickson Profar belted the 'Dads in front, 3-2, with his solo blast in the fifth.
Hickory RHP Ben Rowen (L, 0-1) relieved Buckel to start the fifth inning and retired in a row the first eight that he faced. However, Charleston broke that streak with a two-out rally in the top of the seventh to race past the 'Dads on the scoreboard. LF Ramon Flores kept the inning going with a single, before moving from first to third on a base hit by RF Kelvin De Leon to right field. RF Josh Richmond tried to throw Flores out at third, but overthrew the base and the error enabled Flores to score on the play with De Leon ending up at third. DH Francisco Arcia followed with an RBI single to score De Leon and put the RiverDogs up, 4-3.
The RiverDogs tacked on two more insurance runs in the eighth. CF Slade Heathcott led off with a triple and quickly came home on a fielding error charged to SS Jurickson Profar, which allowed 2B Anderson Feliz to reach. Feliz then went all the way to third on a stolen base and throwing error by C Kellin Deglan, before coming in on an RBI single by Roller, accounting for the 6-3 final score in the Charleston victory. RHP Kelvin Perez (S, 3) registered the save with a scoreless bottom of the ninth.
