Romak powers Curve over Connecticut

ALTOONA, PA - Jamie Romak blasted two home runs and the pitching of Mike Crotta and Sean Smith were outstanding and the Curve won their fifth of seven games in a 4-0 victory over the Connecticut Defenders at Blair County Ballpark.

Romak broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth with a solo blast to left field and then a run was walked home in the fifth to give the Curve a 2-0 lead. Then in the bottom of the eighth inning it was Romak again, this time connecting for a two-run shot to deep left center field.

Romak finished the night 2-for-4 with two home runs and three RBIs. Jose Tabata and Hector Gimenez each went 1-for-3 with a run scored as well for the Curve.

Crotta (4-3) was nearly unhittable throughout his start allowing just three hits in six shutout innings with three strikeouts. The win is Crotta's first since May 12th. Sean Smith entered the game following a 46 minute rain delay and finished what Crotta started pitching three shut out innings and giving up just one hit and striking out five Defenders for his fourth save of the season.

Altoona (24-44) could win their third consecutive series if they can defeat Connecticut (38-30) Sunday night at Blair County Ballpark. The Curve will throw left hander Daniel Moskos (4-5, 4.17) and the Defenders will counter with righty Daryl Maday (2-2, 3.56). First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m. with radio coverage beginning at 5:35 p.m. on ESPN Radio 1430, WVAM and the Curve Radio Network.

Gates open at 5:00 to the general public and great seats are still available for the Father's Day game with Connecticut. Fans will be treated to a Fireworks display after the game that always Wows the crowd.
