Asheville Tourists News Release
(Asheville, NC) - The Tourists and Greenjackets played a doubleheader Friday night, splitting the pair of seven-inning games. Asheville took game one, 6-4, then took a 5-1 lead into the seventh inning of game two, but a seven-run top of the seventh gave Augusta an 8-6 victory. Asheville first baseman Kiel Roling had five hits between the two games, including homeruns in each contest, and a 4-for-4 effort with 4 RBI in game two.
Isaiah Froneberger started game one for the Tourists and pitched well for most of three innings, before allowing a three-run homer to Andy D'Alessio with two outs in the third. The homerun gave Augusta a 3-2 lead after the Tourists scored on a Kiel Roling solo shot in the second and a Jordan Pacheco RBI double in the third.
Augusta took a 4-2 lead in the top of the fifth on another RBI for D'Alessio, this one a single that scored Dom Duggan. Asheville made it 4-3 in the fifth when Jimmy Cesario drove an RBI double off the right field wall.
The Tourists were up against the wall, down two runs in the bottom of the sixth, when Delta Cleary delivered the big blow. With two outs and two men on, Cleary crushed his fifth homerun of the year over the wall in right center, giving Asheville a 6-4 lead. Adam Jorgenson was as sharp as ever in the seventh, striking out all three batters he faced to earn his 16th save of the year.
Game two was all Asheville until the seventh inning. The Tourists took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI base hit for Tyler Massey, and carried it into the third. Kiel Roling stepped up to the plate with two on and two out, and lambasted his second homerun of the day over the center field wall, giving his team a 4-0 lead.
Starting pitcher Dan Houston was solid, going 5.1 innings and allowing just an unearned run on 6 hits while striking out 6 batters. Houston pitched well enough to win, but Michael Marbry got into trouble out of the bullpen.
Augusta scored their unearned run in the top of the fourth, when Ehire Adrianza scored from third base on a passed ball by Beau Seabury, making it 4-1. The Tourists added to their lead in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI base hit by Jimmy Cesario, giving Asheville a 5-1 advantage.
Marbry came back out for the top of the seventh and struck out Wendell Fairley for the first out. The Greenjackets then rallied with six consecutive hits, scoring five runs to take a 6-5 lead. After Kurt Yacko came on from the bullpen, Mike Loberg delivered the final blow, a two-run homerun to left to make it 8-5 Augusta.
Asheville would get a run back in the bottom of the seventh, but that's all they could manage against Edwin Quirarte, losing 8-6.
The Tourists (10-5) will face the Greenjackets (8-8) Saturday night for the finale of this four-game series. Asheville will have RHP Jonnathan Aristil (0-5, 5.40) starting Saturday against Augusta's RHP Mike Loree (5-5, 4.03).
