Hagerstown Suns News Release
GREENSBORO, NC - The Hagerstown Suns (5-11) overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the Greensboro Grasshoppers (4-11) 10-5 on Friday.
Greensboro scored two runs on three hits in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead after the Suns stranded two runners in scoring position in the top of the first.
In the top of the third inning, the Suns took control with three runs on three hits including a two-run home run by Derek Norris in the top of the third inning. Norris' blast, his league-leading 21st home run of the season, drove in Chris Curran who had walked to lead off the inning.
After Norris' home run, Tyler Moore came through with a double down the left field line. Moore would score two batters later as Charlie Fermaint served a single into center field, giving the Suns a 3-2 lead.
After Suns' starter Patrick Arnold shut down the Grasshoppers in the bottom of the third inning, the Suns came back with four more runs in top of the fourth. With one out in the fourth, Michael Guerrero walked and James Keithly singled, and both came around to score as two batters later Steve Lombardozzi doubled to left field.
Lombardozzi and Norris, who was intentionally walked, were both driven in on a double by Moore, giving the Suns a 7-2 lead.
Greensboro got one run back on a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth by Jeremy Synan, and another run on a hit and a walk in the bottom of the fifth inning to close the gap to 7-4.
Hagerstown put the game away with three runs on just two hits in the top of the ninth inning, though Synan struck again in the bottom of the ninth with another home run, making the final score 10-5.
Arnold (3-1) got the win for the Suns with five innings of work. The righthander allowed four runs on six hits, but only walked one batter before making way for the bullpen.
Reliever Drew Storen pitched the sixth and seventh innings for Hagerstown and struck out four batters without allowing a base hit or a walk.
Carlos Peralta picked up his third save of the season by allowing just one run over the final two innings.
Johnny Dorn (8-6) took the loss for Greensboro after allowing seven runs, all earned, in five innings of work.
The Suns will close their four-game series against the Grasshoppers on Saturday at 7:05 PM. Hagerstown is 4-3 on their current eight-game road trip and 2-1 in the series with Greensboro.
