Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release

KANNAPOLIS, NC - Lakewood posted six early runs against Kannapolis starter J.R. Ballinger and held on for a 7-5 win over the Intimidators on Friday night at Fieldcrest Cannon Stadium.

Ballinger, making just his second professional start, gave up six runs, all earned, in four innings of work. The biggest blow came after Ballinger (0-2) had departed the ballgame, when Jim Murphy hit a bases-loaded double off of Charlis Burdie to score three and give the BlueClaws a 6-2 lead.

Walks were a serious issue for Ballinger. The right-hander issued five walks, leading to three Lakewood runs.

Kannapolis rallied for three runs in the bottom of the sixth to move within one, but could not find the game-tying run. Luis Sierra singled in the sixth to bring the Intimidators back to 6-5.

Kannapolis' bullpen was strong again, as four pitchers combined to allow one run over five innings. Tyson Corley surrendered a run in the top of the ninth to allow the BlueClaws lead to grow to two.

Justin De Fratus (3-2) got the win for the ‘Claws, giving up four runs, two earned, in 5 1/3 innings pitched. B.J. Rosenberg earned his 14th save of the season by pitching the final two innings without giving up a run.
