CHARLESTON, SC - Bowling Green's Jeremy Beckham smacked a game-winning RBI single in the 11th inning as the Hot Rods edged the RiverDogs, 5-4, in South Atlantic League action Friday in front of 6,054 fans at Bowling Green Ballpark.
Tied in the 11th inning, Anthony Scelfo lined a single to right, stole second and scored on Beckham's game-winning RBI single to left for Bowling Green's walk off 5-4 triumph.
RiverDogs reliever Chuck Nolte (0-1) suffered the defeat after he allowed one earned run on two hits and two walks while striking out two in 2.1 frames of relief.
Despite earning a blown save, Hot Rods reliever Josh Satow (3-0) earned the win after he surrendered one earned run on two hits and one walk while striking out three in 4.0 full stanzas.
With the victory, Bowling Green's second half record increases to 10-5 (44-41 overall) while Charleston falls to 7-9 in the second half (46-39 overall).
The Hot Rods jumped to an early 1-0 lead in the first when Beckham reached on a throwing error by second baseman Corban Joseph and immediately stole second. Following a walk to Jake Jefferies, Beckham advanced to third on a fly out and scored on Isaias Velasquez's single up the middle.
Charleston knotted the game at 1-1 in the second when Abraham Almonte drew a walk, stole second and scored on Mitch Abeita's single to right.
The RiverDogs took a 3-1 advantage in the third when Chase Weems smacked a leadoff double to left, moved to third on a groundout and scored on Joseph's RBI double to center. Melky Mesa followed with a RBI single to center that knocked home Joseph for the inning's second run.
Bowling Green forced a 3-3 tie in the home half of the third when Jefferies drew a walk and advanced to third on Kang's single to center. On the play Kang trotted into second on Almonte's fielding error. Michael Sheridan lined a two-run single to left that plated Jefferies and Kang.
The Hot Rods captured a 4-3 lead in the fifth when Jefferies lined a two-out single up the middle. Kang added a single to left that Grote misplayed for a fielding error allowing the runners to advance into scoring position. Sheridan lined a RBI single to right that drove in Jefferies.
Charleston tied the game at 4-4 in the eighth when Grote drew a walk and then circled the bases to score on Almonte's triple.
RiverDogs starter Brett Marshall received a no-decision after tossing five full frames and was charged four runs - two earned - on seven hits, three runs and five strikeouts.
Hot Rods starter Joe Cruz was handed a no-decision after he allowed three earned runs on five hits and one walk while striking out two in 4.0 innings on the mound.
Led by Joseph's three base knocks the RiverDogs collected 10 hits on the night while the Hot Rods blasted 12 hits paced by a quintet of Bowling Green bat's each collected a pair.
In the series finale, Charleston hands the ball to right-hander Andrew Brackman (1-8, 6.01) while Bowling Green opposes with southpaw Frank De Los Santos (4-6, 3.72) with first pitch set for Saturday at 8:05 p.m.
