Arkansas Travelers News Release
Dickey-Stephens Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas - Not much went right for the Arkansas Travelers (5-15, 41-49) on Friday night as they got beat 12-0 by the Tulsa Drillers (13-6, 42-47). Starter Fernando Rodriguez (5-7) was hit hard and often, surrendering seven runs, six earned, on seven hits over five innings. Tulsa starter Chaz Roe (3-0) remained perfect on the season by pitching the first complete-game shutout of his professional career. The Travelers were able to manage just three base hits off Roe, all singles.
Roe struck out seven batters against just one walk. Roe sat down the final 10 batters he faced, striking out Brian Stavisky to end the game.
Fernando Rodriguez got into trouble in the first inning by allowing four runs on four hits to the Drillers who sent nine men to the plate.
Things didn't get much better in the second when leadoff batter Eric Young Jr. bunted the ball back to the mound and the pitcher's throw was dropped by the 1B Stavisky for an error. Young came home to score on a wild pitch. The next batter, Corey Wimberly scored on Dexter Fowler's RBI sac-fly.
Young left the game in the bottom of the third inning with a split thumbnail and was replaced in the lineup by Tony Blanco.
Fernando Rodriguez settled down to record scoreless innings in the third and fourth but was touched for another run on Jeff Kindel's home run to right to lead off the fifth inning.
Francisco Rodriguez pitched in relief of Fernando and worked two scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.
Stephen Marek came in to work the eighth inning and surrendered two runs on two hits and one walk.
Rafael Rodriguez worked the ninth inning and allowed a three-run home run to Brian Esposito to cap the scoring for the Drillers.
Chris Pettit, Corey Smith and Adam Morrissey collected the three hits for the Travs but Morrissey was the only one of the three to get off first base. He advanced to second base on a wild pitch and moved to third on a ground out but was stranded. After Adam Greenberg took a one-out walk and moved to third on Roe's pick off that went down the first-base line, he was left stranded at third with the Travs first of four stranded base runners.
Time of game was 2:48 and paid attendance was 5,398.
Boxscore
The Travelers will take on the Drillers in game three of this four-game series on Saturday night at 7:10 with the gates opening at 6:10. The Travs will send RHP Bobby Mosebach (7-7, 4.97 ERA) up against Tulsa RHP Alan Johnson (3-7, 4.84 ERA).
