Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves dropped their second straight contest to the Binghamton Rumble Ponies on Thursday night. While Erie got an early home run from Spencer Torkelson, Binghamton scored five of their six runs on long balls of their own to push ahead. Erie made a late charge at the deficit with two runs scored after the seventh inning, but still fell 6-4.
Binghamton only needed two home runs to earn the win. Carlos Cortes hit the first in the third inning, a solo shot to right field. A.J. Ladwig surrendered three singles to lead off the fourth inning, and David Rodriguez knocked the second home run of the day, a grand slam, to center field, putting Binghamton ahead. Ladwig would be charged for the loss, but worked into the sixth inning for the third time this season.
Out of the bullpen, Yaya Chentouf allowed an unearned run in the eighth inning on an infield error, but still worked 2.1 innings to finish the night for Erie.
Erie could only manage a pair of runs against Binghamton's Dustin Beggs on the mound. Spencer Torkelson lined his ninth home run of the year with Erie to left field in the third inning to score the pair of runs against the starter, but Beggs earned the win after notching 5.1 innings.
Binghamton turned to Connor Grey out of the bullpen, who allowed a pair of runs in three innings of relief. Ryan Kreidler and Torkelson each doubled in the eighth inning to score one run, and Kerry Carpenter scored on an error in the ninth inning before Binghamton went to a closer. Eric Orze logged his first save of the year by striking out Riley Greene to end the game, stranding Erie's tying run at first base.
Erie and Binghamton continue their series on Friday night at Mirabito Stadium in Binghamton. Joey Wentz will get the start for the SeaWolves, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
