July 22, 2021 - Eastern League (EL)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Akron RubberDucks once again donned their Hispanic identity, Los Perros Calientes de Akron, and used a four-run sixth to back Adam Scott's strong start and down the Richmond Flying Squirrels 6-5 on Thursday night at Canal Park.

Turning Point

Akron broke the 1-1 stalemate in the bottom of the sixth when Chris Roller singled home Andruw Monasterio. Bo Naylor followed with an RBI single of his own to stretch the lead to 3-1. A fielder's choice by Daniel Schneemann and an RBI single by Will Benson would plate to Roller and Naylor respectively to cap the four-run inning to make it 5-1 RubberDucks.

Mound Presence

Adam Scott got the start for Los Perros and found himself in trouble quickly after allowing back-to-back hits to open the game but would settle in by striking out two and getting a fly out to escape the inning without damage. Scott would breeze through the Flying Squirrels lineup until the fifth when an RBI double would tie the game. In total, Scott would allow just the one run over five innings while striking out seven. Skylar Arias followed and tossed a scoreless sixth before leaving with the bases loaded in the seventh. Ben Krauth worked out of the jam by getting a line out to Tyler Freeman, who promptly tossed it to second to double off the runner and end the inning. Krauth allowed three runs in the eight before turning it over to Kyle Marman with runners on first and second, but Marman would escape the jam with a big strikeout. Marman would return in the ninth and only allow one run to close out the win.

Duck Tales

After Roller's sac-bunt moved runners to second and third, Naylor brought home the first run of the game with a sac-fly to right field to make it 1-0 Akron in the bottom of the fourth. Akron added on in the seventh when Monasterio came home on a wild pitch to make it 6-1 Ducks. The RubberDucks left five runners stranded on base and were 3-for-15 with RISP.
