New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) The Boulders rally for four runs in the eighth as they comeback for the second straight day to beat the Bears 4-2 on camp day at Provident Bank Park.
Newark struck first in the top of the third as Eric McGee and Dan Coury opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Quentin Davis would make the score 1-0 by driving in McGee on a fielder's choice. Boulders starter Gustavo Chacin settled in to hold the Bears silent, until the top of the seventh when Coury would homer into the Corona Short Porch to make the tally 2-0. Chacin would leave the game after the seventh surrendering just two runs on seven hits while striking out six.
On the other hand, Bears starter Mike Ness pitched seven strong shutout innings holding the Boulders to just three hits. Kyle Morrison would enter the game for Newark in the eighth and Rockland would capitalize. Newly acquired shortstop Jose Reyes would start the inning with a double, followed by a Chris Valencia walk and a Qualon Millender bunt single that turned into a two-RBI triple on a Coury throwing error. With the score tied at two, Phillip Cuadrado knocked in the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to center to make the score 3-2. Rockland would add an insurance run later in the inning as Ryan Scoma doubled and was brought home on a Melvin Falu double.
Adrian Martin would enter the game in the ninth and record the save for the Boulders. Reliever MacKenzie King is credited with the win for his work in the eighth while Morrison suffers the loss.
The Boulders play one more in Newark tomorrow before returning home for a four-game weekend series against Worcester. Thursday's contest at Provident Bank Park begins at 7 P.M.
