New Jersey Jackals News Release
Carlos Guzman was 4-5 and Craig Clark allowed only a run, as the Jackals exploded for 12 in their 12-1 win over the Tornadoes Tuesday night.
The Jackals never trailed on the humid Tuesday evening in Worcester.
Chris Curran started the ballgame with a walk. Matt Nandin promptly followed with a two-run home run, ending the day 2-5 with three RBIs.
The highlight of the game was a six-run Jackals sixth inning in which they sent 10 to the plate. Curran and Nick Salotti highlighted the inning with a pair or two-RBI base hits.
Craig Clark allowed nine hits but only one run. He struck out eight in six innings to improve to 4-4 on the season. Worcester would leave 13 runners on base in their one-run, 12-hit performance.
Tornadoes starter Kevin Cooper drops to 3-6 this season. He allowed nine runs off 10 hits.
In addition to Guzman's 4-5 performance, Gaetano Giunta chipped in with a 2-5, three RBI night and Salotti with a 2-5, two-RBI showing. On the same day Joe DiMaggio's 56-game hit streak came to a close 71 years ago, Giunta and Salotti improve theirs to six straight.
With the win, New Jersey improves to 32-24. Coupled with Quebec's 3-2 loss to the American Association's Gary SouthShore RailCats, the Jackals push to five games back of first place in the Can-Am standings.
The Jackals face a quick turnaround when they finish the series tomorrow morning at 11:00 before facing the aforementioned RailCats for a four-game set Thursday to Sunday.
Isaac Pavlik (5-1, 3.31 ERA) will start tomorrow. The pregame show begins 10:50.
