Another Double-Digit Day for the Jackals
July 17, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
Worcester Tornadoes News Release
With the summer season in full steam, it was hotter inside the dugout than it was on the field. The Jackals would argue that it was hot on the field as well, as they stayed hot, outscoring the Tornadoes 12-1 in the second game of the three game series Tuesday night.
Kevin Cooper, who struggled against the Jackals in the past, allowed nine runs on ten hits over five innings pitched. He got tagged with the loss, his sixth of the season.
Jackals southpaw Craig Clark earned his fourth win, going six innings and surrendering only one run on nine hits. Jake Hale and Jimmer Kennedy combined with three scoreless innings to keep the Tornadoes at one run.
Matt Nandin helped the Jackals jump on Cooper early, hitting a two run long ball that scored Chris Curran.
Chris Torres countered Matt Nandin by hitting an RBI single, brining the Tornadoes within one run of their Jackal counterparts.
Kevin Cooper then got goose eggs in his next two frames before Gaetano Giunta smacked an RBI single, scoring Carlos Guzman, increasing the Jackals lead to 3-1.
The Jackals then blew the game wide open in the sixth inning. Ten men came to the plate for the New Jersey side in the top of the fifth, which included an RBI single from Nick Giarraputo, a two run double from former Tornado Nick Salotti, an RBI groundout from Giunta, and a two-run single for Chris Curran.
Kyle Regnault and Mike Mullen pitched scoreless frames for the Tornadoes in the sixth and seventh. Tony Patane then allowed three runs to score in the eighth and ninth in the shortstop's fourth appearance in 2012.
The Tornadoes fall to 17-and-39, losing five in a row going into tomorrow's series finale. The Jackals have cut Les Capitales lead in the standings to five games after tonight's win, improving to 32-24.
