August 14, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New York Boulders News Release
(Ramapo, NY) - With the 2012 regular season dwindling to a precious few games, the Rockland Boulders embark on their longest road-trip of the season - a journey that will span nine games, and over 2,000 miles. There will not be much time for sight-seeing, however, as each game will take on mounting importance with the Boulders retaining hope to gain a playoff bid in the Can-Am League.
After a day off on Monday, August 13, the Boulders' roll to the central US began. Here's a guide to what is in store:
- Pomona, NY to Sioux City, Iowa - 1,314 miles - The Boulders start off with the longest leg of their trip, taking on the American Association's lone contingent from Iowa. The Explorers were founded in 1993 and are in their 20th season of existence. They play at Lewis & Clark Park, and currently stand in fourth place out of five teams in the AA's Central Division with a 35-46 record, 12 games out of first place and having lost their last three. Rockland is scheduled to start Pat Moran, Bobby Blevins, and Gustavo Chacin in the three-game series from Tuesday thru Thursday, with all games starting at 8:05 pm Eastern Time.
- Sioux City, Iowa to Fargo-Moorhead, North Dakota - 331 miles - The middle three games in the journey will take place in North Dakota, at Newman Outdoor Field on the campus of North Dakota State University. While the RedHawks have been in existence since 1996, this is their second season in the American Association, where they are the class of the league with a 53-28 record, in first place by 5.5 games in the AA's North Division. Friday's game is slated to start at 8:00, Saturday at 7:00, and Sunday at 2:00 (all times Eastern), with the Boulders expected to send Jon Velasquez, Will Hassett, and Pat Moran to the hill.
- Fargo-Moorhead, North Dakota to St. Paul, Minnesota - 247 miles - Rockland wraps up its Midwest adventure with three games against the St. Paul Saints, who are also celebrating the franchise's 20th season. The Saints play at Midway Stadium and come in with a record of 43-38 and in third place in the North Division, 10 games behind Fargo-Moorhead and 5.5 behind Winnipeg. All three games, Monday thru Wednesday, are scheduled to start at 8:05 Eastern, with Bobby Blevins, Gustavo Chacin, and Jon Velasquez as the projected starters.
- St. Paul Minnesota to Pomona, NY - 1,201 miles - When the road trip concludes, the Boulders will have a day off on Thursday, August 23 for the long trip home. In all, they will have accumulated 2,093 Frequent Flier miles as they settle in for the season's final stretch.
There will be little rest for the weary as the team returns home to square off with the New Jersey Jackals on August 24, 25, and 26, travel to Worcester for a four-game set against the Tornadoes on August 27-30, and finish the regular season at Provident Bank Park against the AA's Lincoln SaltDogs from September 1-3.
