Capitales Silence Jackals' Bats For Second Straight Night, Take Game Two
August 14, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am)
New Jersey Jackals News Release
Different day, same story for the Quebec Capitales who cruised to another shutout victory over the New Jersey Jackals on a cool Tuesday night in Little Falls. They win the second game of a four-game set 5-0.
Coming off a string of suspect starts, Capitales starter Bryan Rembisz was effective. The right-hander threw six innings of shutout ball, surrendering only six hits and two walks. He improves to 8-4 this year.
Opposite Rembisz was Jackals' left-hander Craig Clark, coming off one of his best starts of the season against Rockland last Thursday. Tuesday, Clark allowed four runs, two earned, but worked around seven Capitales hits and four walks. Still, Clark suffers the loss and falls to 6-7.
The first four Capitales' runs came in pairs. In the third inning, a Renee Leverett RBI single got Quebec on the board. A conventional 1-2-3-9-4-2-5 inning-ending double play by New Jersey allowed the second run of that inning to score. The Capitales added two more runs in the sixth via a bases-loaded, Steve Brown double play and a Matt Nandin error.
Despite the 5-0 defeat, New Jersey out-hit Quebec 10 to nine. Chris Henderson, Nick Salotti and Carlos Guzman all recorded multi-hit games.
Jeff Helps led the way for the Capitales with a 3-5, 2 2B day.
With the loss, the Jackals are now five-and-a-half games back of the Capitales at 48-35. Quebec sits at 53-29.
The series continues tomorrow evening at Yogi Berra Stadium. The Jackals send Can-Am strikeout leader Steve Fox (10-2, 3.12) to the mound to stop the bleeding. Fellow converted starter Chad Jones (2-3, 2.52) goes for Quebec. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 with the pregame beginning ten minutes prior.
The New Jersey Jackals, proud members of the Canadian-American Association of Professional Baseball, play their home games at Yogi Berra Stadium located on the campus of Montclair State University in Little Falls, NJ. 2012 single-game tickets, season tickets, mini-plans and group outings are available by calling 973-746-7434.
