Can-Am League Game Recaps
August 14, 2012 - Canadian American League (Can-Am) News Release
Quebec 5, New Jersey 0
The Capitales pitching staff worked its way around 10 New Jersey hits, shutting out the Jackals, 5-0. Quebec starter Bryan Rembisz blanked New Jersey over six innings, allowing six hits and two walks and lowering his season ERA to 4.32. At the plate for Quebec, leadoff SS Jeff Helps smacked two doubles and scored a run, going 3-for-5 to lead all players in hits. The two-baggers accounted for Helps' 16th and 17th of 2012. Six of New Jersey's 10 hits came from the bottom of the lineup, with nine hole-hitting C Chris Henderson going 2-for-3 and sharing the team lead in base knocks with DH Nick Salotti and RF Carlos Guzman.
Newark 8, Worcester 7
After watching his team's five-run lead turn into a narrow, one-run advantage from the bullpen in the eighth inning, Newark reliever Jorge Vasquez entered the game and promptly struck out all five batters he faced to secure the Bears' 8-7 victory over Worcester. Vasquez now has 60 strikeouts against only 13 walks. Newark got three RBI from LF Bryce Lane, who was one of a quartet of Bears with multiple hits. The Bears led, 8-3, entering the eighth inning. But a pair of home runs from the Tornadoes - the second a three-run shot from 3B Cam Kneeland - brought Worcester within one run of the visitors from Newark. But the momentum shifted when Vasquez entered the game, leading to the Bears win.
Sioux City 10, Rockland 7
The Boulders scored six runs in the first two innings on Tuesday, and Rockland led Sioux City, 6-5, entering the third. From that point on, however, the Explorers held the upper hand, plating five more runs over the next five innings to take a 10-6 lead. Sioux City won the contest, 10-7. Explorers RF Peter Barrows drove in three runs, going 2-for-4 and raising his average to .294. Boulders DH Keith Brachold hit his fourth home run of the season, but finished just 1-for-4 on the evening and couldn't get on base in the late innings. Explorers starting pitcher Richard Salazar earned the win despite surrendering the early runs. Salazar threw seven innings and allowed six runs on 11 hits.
