Rockies Win in Late Innings

July 25, 2014 - Pioneer League (PL)
Ogden Raptors News Release

The Ogden Raptors lost an eighth-inning lead in a 7-6 loss to the Grand Junction Rockies Friday night at Lindquist Field.

The Raptors broke a 5-5 tie in the top of the eighth. With one out, Yensys Capellan walked and stole second. After Colin Hering was hit by a pitch, Jimmy Allen hit a potential double-play ground ball. The Rockies got the out at second, but Wilson Soriano's throw to first was high and let Capellan score on the error to put Ogden up by a run.

The lead would be short lived however. Luis Castro started the eighth by getting hit by a pitch, and Terry McClure walked to knock Billy Flamion out of the game. Soriano then hit a single to left that went under the glove of left fielder Brian Wolfe. Castro and McClure both scored on the error to give Grand Junction a 7-6 lead.

Alec Crawford pitched a perfect ninth to save the game and give the Rockies the win.

The Raptors were able to take a lead in the sixth inning. Tied 1-1, Devan Ahart, Cody Bellinger and Julian Leon hit consecutive singles to drive in a run. Two batters later, Capellan hit his first home run of the season, a three-run shot, and the Raptors lead 5-1.

The Rockies were able to tie the game back up in the bottom of the inning. All nine batters came to the plate in the inning. Henry Garcia hit a run-scoring single to right, and Dom Nunez drove in two with a single to center. Nunez later came home on a fielder's choice by McClure, tying the game 5-5.

The Raptors come back to Lindquist Field for a two-game series against the Idaho Falls Chukars, starting Saturday. The first game will be the last for the first half, and the second game will start the second half. Abdiel Velasquez starts the game for Ogden against Jake Newberry. Game starts at 7:00 and can be heard on 97.5 The Zone.
