Idaho Falls Chukars News Release
IDAHO FALLS, ID -- Two games were scheduled for Melaleuca Field tonight. Grand Junction clobbered Idaho Falls 18-8 in game one. Game two was suspended with the Chukars up 7-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The seven inning game will continue tomorrow, at 5pm, followed by another seven inning game 30 minutes after.
Idaho Falls (31-30, 11-12) began the second ballgame by putting up seven runs in the first inning. The first three batters reached base off of Alex Rodriguez. Brandon Thomasson belted a bases clearing double that broke open the Chukars lead. A few batters later, Brandon Downes scored two more on a double.
Jake Newberry mowed through the Rockies (39-22, 16-7) in three innings of game two. He faced only two over the minimum, allowing three hits while striking out four batters. The rain picked up in the bottom of the third with Brandon Thomasson at the plate, with no outs.
Grand Junction took the first contest 18-8. The Rockies got to Emilio Ogando (1-2) in the first inning, scoring four runs off of the left-hander. Yonathan Daza delivered the two run backbreaking double. Daza finished game one 4 for five with three runs batted in and three runs scored. Kevin Padlo broke the contest open with a grand slam home run in the fourth inning. The Rockies led 10-2 after four innings. Grand Junction added five more tallied in the sixth, highlighted by a Roberto Ramos grand slam home run.
Idaho Falls has hosted five rainouts/suspended games this season, and has been a part of one of the road. Each of the past three nights have ended early due to rain. In the 2013 regular season, the Chukars didn't have one game delayed or postponed due to weather.
The Chukars are currently five games back of the Rockies with 15 games left to play, including the one suspended. Two of the games are slated for tomorrow, in a doubleheader against Grand Junction. The two seven inning games will begin at 5pm.
