GF BLANKS HELENA

The Voyagers collected their league-leading fifth shutout of the season Thursday night, blanking Helena 2-0. Luis Martinez turned in another strong start, whiffing six Brewers in five innings. The bullpen trio of Aaron Bummer, Devon Davis, and Alex Powers held Helena hitless over the final four innings, while each picking up three strikeouts of their own. Great Falls pitching struck out 15 Brewers, a new season-high. Dillon Haupt and Louie Lechich had the RBIs for the Voyagers, bringing in a run each in the first and fourth innings respectively.

POWERFUL STUFF

Since joining the Voyagers on July 17, Alex Powers has been a force in the bullpen. Last night, the Brewster, Mass., native retired all six he faced, striking out three to earn his second save. The righty now owns a microscopic 0.98 ERA in eight appearances, and has struck out 21 in 18 and a third innings of work (10.3 K/9).

MR. CONSISTENCY

Venezuelan right-hander Luis Martinez has been very consistent through his first four Pioneer League starts after turning in five scoreless frames while earning the win last night. Martinez has lasted five innings three times and five and a third frames once, allowing one run or no runs each time. The 19-year old has struck out 17 so far, and his earned run average is 1.33 through four starts with the Voyagers. Combining his numbers with Great Falls and the AZL White Sox, Martinez has struck out 57 in 53.1 innings of work, for a ratio of 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings.

LECHICH HEATING UP

Voyager outfielder Louie Lechich went 2-3 last night, and now has an eight-game hitting streak going. Five of those eight games have been multi-hit efforts, including a career-high tying three on August 13 at Orem. The Stockton, Calif., native is 14-31 (.452) during his eight-game run, boosting his average 47 points to .223.
