Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

Alfredo Garcia allowed one run over six innings as the Grand Junction Rockies beat the Idaho Falls Chukars 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Melaleuca Field.

The only blemish on Garcia's line was a first inning solo homer hit by Nate Eaton, but he held the Chukars to four more hits the rest of the day, and he struck out a season-high six batters without walking anyone, but didn't factor in the decision.

After Eaton's homer, the Rockies didn't score until the fifth when Cristopher Navarro followed Franklin Garcia's leadoff triple with a one-out RBI bunt single. The Chukars threatened to regain the lead in the seventh with Garcia out of the game, but Aneudy Duarte struck out the side, stranding two runners, and the Rockies took the lead in the eighth against the Idaho Falls bullpen.

C.J. Eldred started for the Chukars and allowed just that fifth inning run over seven innings, but Will Golsan greeted Jackson Klein with a single to start the eighth, and he scored from third on a wild pitch to put the Rockies on top for the first time. Michael Agis struck out two in the bottom of the eighth, freezing Chase Vallot for the last out, and the Rockies broke the game open in the ninth, scoring three runs on five straight hits. Agis worked around a 2-out double in the ninth for his second save, handing Duarte his first win.

Golsan finished with three hits, while Hunter Stovall and Navarro added a pair. Navarro drove in two runs as the Rockies take 3-of-4 in Idaho Falls and improve to 8-4 in the second half, 28-22 overall.

Eaton finished with three hits for the Chukars.
