Great Falls Voyagers News Release
Missoula, MT - The Voyagers stranded 10 base runners and went 0-for-10 with runners in scoring position in a 6-5 loss to the Osprey Saturday night at Ogren Park.
Great Falls (23-25, 1-9) has lost six straight games, and fell to 1-6 at Missoula this season. The Voyagers are 5-7 against the Osprey in the overall season series. They fell to 7-16 on the road. Missoula (24-24, 5-5) has won three straight, and is a division-best 15-8 at home.
The Voyagers broke the ice with a run in the 1st. Bryce Bush led off the game with a hit-by-pitch. Bush stole second and later went to third on a wild pitch. Bush scored on a passed ball. The Osprey leveled the game in the bottom of the 1st with a solo home run high in the air to right off the bat of Blaze Alexander.
Missoula took the lead with a three-run 3rd as eight batters came to the plate. Blaze Alexander reached with a one-out single off the wall in right. Buddy Kennedy drew a walk. With two outs, Eddie Hernandez grounded a double up the left field line for a 2-1 lead. Brandon Leyton made it 4-1 with a two-RBI single poked into shallow center.
A two-run 4th for Great Falls closed the gap. Amado Nunez smashed a solo home run high and deep to left-center for his first of the season. Romy Gonzalez followed with a double to the wall in right-center. After a groundout, a fielder's choice RBI on a ball hit back to the pitcher by Micah Coffey cut the Osprey lead to 4-3.
Both teams scored a run in the 5th. The Voyagers tied the game with a one-out, solo home run belted high up the right field line by Bryce Bush. It was Bush's first hit and RBI in his second game with Great Falls. In the home half, Buddy Kennedy's leadoff double into right led to the go-ahead run. Zac Almond reached with a base hit lofted into center. The throw to second went awry and Kennedy scored from third on the error for a 5-4 lead.
Missoula made it 6-4 with another mark in the 6th. Jesus Marriaga reached base with an infield single. Marriaga went to second on a groundout and then stole third. He scored on a catcher's throwing error into left field.
Great Falls trimmed the lead to one with a run in the 7th. Bryce Bush tripled into the right field corner and scored on a Lenyn Sosa groundout to short. The Voyagers put two runners on in the 9th with back-to-back one-out singles, but the game ended with two consecutive fly outs.
Amado Nunez posted the first five-hit game for the Voyagers this season. Bryce Bush collected two hits with three runs. Logan Sowers went 2-for-5 with a pair of singles. On the mound, Wilfry Cruz picked up the win. Cruz (5-1) worked five innings and gave up four earned runs on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Lane Ramsey took the loss in relief. Ramsey (2-2) went four innings and yielded five runs (three earned) on six hits with two walks. Jake Polancic earned his first save as he went one-and-two-thirds and gave up two hits with two strikeouts.
