Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

Trailing 4-0 after six innings, the Grand Junction Rockies rallied Saturday night, but came up short, losing to the Idaho Falls Chukars 4-3 at Melaleuca Field.

With Chukars starter J.C. Cloney out of the game following six scoreless innings, the Rockies scored three, two-out runs against Stephen Greenlees, thanks to a Hunter Stovall 2-run double and Niko Decolati's RBI single, but Jose Ramirez got Javier Guevara to pop out to keep the lead. However, that wouldn't be the Rockies last chance to get the game tied.

Daniel Montano started the eighth inning with a double off Ramirez, but he retired the next three Rockies, and then retired the side in order in the ninth for his first save of the season, handing Cloney his ninth win in as many starts.

The Rockies finished 2-for-9 with runners in scoring position, leaving nine men on base. They out-hit the Chukars 10-4, but fall to 7-4 in the second half, 27-22 overall.

Ryan Rolison made his fifth start and allowed a single to start the first inning. An error followed by two ground outs allowed the Chukars to score an unearned run in the frame. Rolison took the loss, despite retiring the last 12 he faced. He struck out six.

Cayden Hatcher retired the side in order in the fifth, but allowed three runs, two earned, in the sixth. Jared Skolnicki allowed one infield single over two innings of work.

Decolati finished with three hits, while Guevara added a pair.

The Rockies will close out the pre all star break portion of the schedule when they play the finale of their 4-game series against the Chukars. The first pitch from Melaleuca Field is set for 4:00.
