Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release

There was a fireworks show after the game at Lindquist Field on Saturday, but the Grand Junction Rockies and Ogden Raptors put on a show of their own before. The teams combined for 17 runs on 27 hits with four home runs, but the Rockes came out on top 10-7.

Ogden grabbed the lead when Nick Dean started the bottom of the first with his second home run of the season, then with one out and Nick Sell at first base, Matt Jones homered to centerfield to make it 3-0.

Jonathan Piron homered to center to start the second inning to get the Rockies on the board, but Sell doubled home a pair in the bottom to give Ogden a 4-run lead, but the Rockies came back in the third.

Collin Ferguson started the inning with his second home run of the season. Sam Hilliard followed a walk and scored on Wilfredo Rodriguez's double. Grand Junction tied the game thanks to a Tyler Nevin sacrifice fly and Cole Anderson double, but Ogden regained the lead with a run in the third and added one in the fourth.

The Raptors left the bases loaded in both those innings, and the Rockies made them pay. They took the lead in the seventh, Mylz Jones tied the game with a 2-run single, and Michael Benjamin brought him in with a double.

After Hunter Brothers left the bases loaded in the fourth, he retired the side in order in the fifth. Lorenz Ozuna worked around a 2-out triple in the sixth, and after the Rockies took the lead, he tossed 1-2-3 seventh and eighth innings.

In the ninth, the Rockies scored a pair, Daniel Suero doubled home Jones and Collin Ferguson singled home Suero to make it 10-7 and Sam Thoele tossed a scoreless bottom of the ninth to preserve the win.

Grand Junction collected 16 hits, Piron had five, Anderson had three, while Jones, Suero and Ferguson stroked a pair.

The win gets the Rockies to 10-7 on the season, still two games back of Orem in the South Division with 21 games to play. This story was not subject to the approval of the National Association of Professional Baseball Leagues or its clubs.
