Aaron Rhodes Completes Save to Secure Owlz Victory

IDAHO FALLS- On Sunday night the Orem Owlz (13-5) were looking to knock off the Idaho Falls Chukars (5-13) in back to back nights on the road and with a strong offensive effort and with great defensive plays that's just what they did to capture 8-5 victory.
The night started out with the top of the lineup scoring three runs in the first inning of play as Kyle Survance, David Fletcher and Jared Foster all scored to set a tone for the whole night. In the fourth inning the Owlz scored two more runs off a Hutton Moyer single to send Taylor Ward a cross home plate, then Ranyelmy Mendoza score off a fly ball from Michael Pierson to extend the lead to 5-0.
On the defensive side of the game, the Owlz held the Chukars scoreless for the first four innings of play, until the Chukars scored one run in the fifth inning despite having the bases loaded. In the Sixth inning Moyer saw a fastball he liked and hammered it onto the scoreboard for a home run that sent Ward home with him to extend the lead to 7-1. The final run of the night came off a Brenden Sager single that sent Jeff Boehm home for the final run of the night that made it an 8-1 lead heading into the eighth.
Despite having a 6 run lead heading to the final two innings of the night, the Chukars did not go away easily, as they scored three runs to make things interesting heading to the final inning. As the Owlz didn't score any runs to the top of the ninth, they looked to their closer Aaron Rhodes, who struck out two of the three batters he saw as he completed the save as the Owlz won back to back games in Idaho Falls.
The same two teams will be in action tomorrow night with the first pitch scheduled at 7:15 as the Owlz will look for the sweep against the Chukars.
