Grand Junction Jackalopes News Release
On Thursday night at Brent Brown Ballpark, the Grand Junction Rockies fell behind early, came back late, but fell short, losing a second straight 1-run contest to the Orem Owlz 6-5.
Ranyelmy Mendoza homered for the sixth time this season with one out in the second inning to give the Owlz a 1-0 lead, and that's how the score stayed until Alex Abbott singled home a pair in the fifth.
In the seventh inning, Abbott struck again with a 2-out, 2-run homer to make it a 5-0 game. He has driven home eight runs in two games in the series, but the Rockies weren't done.
Jensen Park followed Mylz Jones leadoff double with his second home run of the season to get the Rockies on the board. Later in the inning, Collin Ferguson hit the first home run of his career to bring the Rockies within two, but Orem got one of those runs back in the bottom of the inning, setting the stage for the ninth, where the Rockies rallied.
Chris Rabago singled to start it, and after Tyler Nevin struck out, Bobby Stahel tripled to left center, scoring Rabago, and bringing the Rockies within a pair. Stahel scored when Jones grounded out, and Cole Anderson flied out to left center to end the game.
The loss drops the Rockies to 8-5 on the season, three games back of the Owlz for first place in the South division.
Trey Killian was tagged with the loss after surrendering three runs over five innings of work.
Rabago was the only Rockie with more than one hit.
