MISSOULA, MONT. - The Missoula Osprey (10-6) scored six times in the bottom of the eighth inning to erase a 7-3 deficit and earn a 9-7 victory over Great Falls (8-6) on Friday night from Ogren Park Allegiance Field.
The O's actually trailed 7-1 headed to the bottom of the sixth before scoring once in the sixth, once in the seventh, and six in the eighth. Although Great Fall connected for four home runs, all off of starter Bo Takahashi, the Osprey bats came alive late in the game to steal the victory.
Takahashi lasted five innings, surrendering five runs (three earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out two.
Missoula benefitted from four walks and a hit batter in the six-run eighth, as the inning began with walks to Austin Byler and Marcus Wilson. Francis Christy followed with a hit-by-pitch before Tyler Humphreys drew a bases-loaded walk to push home the first run. Matt Jones came up clutch with a two-RBI double, his third double of the year, to make it 7-6 before Joey Armstrong contributed a pinch-hit RBI-single through the right side of the infield to tie the game at 7-7. A walk to pinch-hitter Luke Lowery followed, setting the table for a two-RBI double off the wall in left field from Isan Diaz that proved to be the game-winning hit.
Diaz finished the game 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, two runs scored and three RBI. The multi-hit game was Diaz' sixth of the year, while it was his first three-RBI night. Jason Morozowski, hitting out of the second spot in the order, went 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. The right-handed hitter has now collected multiple hits four of his last five games overall, including three straight.
Nick Parent, who entered the game batting .091, belted a pair of homers for Great Falls, as six of the Voyager eight hits went for extra-bases on Friday night.
Gabriel Moya earned the victory for the O's, tossing a perfect eighth inning en route to moving to 1-0 on the year. Dan Savas, who leads the Pioneer League in saves, induced a game-ending 4-6-3 double play to lock up his fifth save of the year.
Mike Gomez took the loss after allowing five runs on two hits and three walks over a third of an inning. The decision dropped him to 1-1 on the year.
Missoula will continue a string of six straight games against Great Falls tomorrow at 7:00 pm MT as the games shift back to Great Falls. LHP Anfernee Benitez (0-1, 7.94 ERA) will toe the rubber for Missoula opposite LHP Zack Erwin (2-0, 0.00 ERA).
