
Rockford squeaks past Richmond in series opener

Richmond, Indiana - The Roosters lost their season-high fifth straight game Tuesday night, falling 3-2 to the Rockford RiverHawks. Richmond only managed to get six hits in the contest and struggled to get base runners in the defeat. The club has now fallen to four games under .500 at 36-40.
The RiverHawks started the scoring in the fourth when Brian Baron hit a one-out double to right that scored Olmo Rosario and Aaron McEachran to give Rockford a 2-0 lead. Richmond tied the game in the top of the fifth on a RBI triple to left by Mike Bidwell and a run-scoring double down the right field line by Gerald Miller.
The score 2-2 until Rockford took the lead again in the sixth on a RBI double by McEachran to make it 3-2 RiverHawks. Derek Roper (7-4) pitched 6 2/3 innings to get the win for Rockford while Jason Glosser (11) earned the save with a perfect ninth. Hunter Davis (2-1) took the loss in a relief appearance.
The Roosters and RiverHawks will continue the series on Wednesday at 7:05 p.m. (Indiana time). Tony Casoli (7-3, 3.38 ERA) will get the start for Richmond and Frank James (1-2, 3.41 ERA) is the scheduled starter for Rockford.
