Windy City ThunderBolts News Release
Crestwood, IL - Nick Ewen trotted home in the 10th inning on a Jason Crosland missile down the left field line to push the ThunderBolts to victory over the Florence Freedom 5-4 Wednesday night at Hawkinson Ford Field. The Bolts are now 2-0 against Florence in bonus baseball in 2005.
Florence evened the score in the 8th inning as Josh Sanchez's sacrifice fly sent Scott Martin toward home plate from 3rd. He tumbled over catcher Jason Alcott and crossed for the tie. Alcott was unable to return to the game.
The Freedom mustered just one baserunner total in the 9th and 10th against Bolts' reliever Chris Hayes. He retired the last 6 hitters he opposed after a 9th-inning leadoff walk.
Ted Rowe took the loss for the second time in extras against the ThunderBolts this year. On July 28th, he surrendered a 10th-frame homer to Ewen as the Bolts snared the middle game of that series 3-2.
Ewen started the 10th off with a single smoked to center field. Justin Schuda sacrificed the right fielder to second base. Crosland did the rest.
Windy City received a 2-for-4 night from Clemente Bonilla. He smacked an RBI triple against Freedom starter Joel Posey in the 2nd. ThunderBolt starter Josh Glynn surrendered just 2 earned in 5 innings and two-thirds. Glynn has permitted just 3 runs home in his last 17 frames and two-thirds.
ThunderBolts manager Brent Bowers and his Florence counterpart Jamie Keefe were ejected in the 8th inning. Both benches cleared and the game was delayed nearly 15 minutes.
The rubber match happens tomorrow at Hawkinson Ford Field at 7:05 PM. Windy City can take the season series 4-2 with a victory. The Bolts send Scott Anderson to the mound to oppose Florence starter Corey Thurman. You can catch the pregame show and every pitch at WJOB AM 1230 or on the web at www.wjobcalpress.com.
