
Paints edge past Grizzlies in game two

The Chillcothe Paints (43-34) defeated the Gateway Grizzlies (35-39) 6-5 Wednesday night in Chillicothe, OH.
The Grizzlies took had leads of 2-0 and 4-2 vanish with two-run home runs by the Paints. Ryan Sullivan and Whit Pierce came through with RBIs in the second inning to make it 2-0. Phil Warren hit a two-run home run for the Grizzlies to make it 4-2 in the third.
Chillicothe would go up 6-4 before Freddy Lopez hit his sixth home run of the year in the sixth inning.
The Grizzlies put the tying run on in the ninth when Oscar Vargas singled, but Paints' closer Ryan Raferty shut the door, striking out the side to end the game.
Sullivan was 3-4 with the RBI. Warren was 1-4 with the home run and two RBIs. Lopez was 1-4 with the home run.
Scott Nicholson (0-1) took the loss in his first start as a Grizzlie. Nicholson went 4 2/3 innings. He allowed all six runs, five earned on nine hits. Chris Little and Scott Patterson followed. Little threw 2 1/3 scoreless innings. Patterson tossed a perfect eighth. He struck out two and in the process overtook Pete Buck as the Grizzlies' all-time strikeout leader. Patterson now has 318 strikeouts for the season.
The Grizzlies and Paints will play the finale of the three-game series Thursday night. Game time is 6:05, central time. Grizzlies' ace Brandon Smith (10-3) will oppose Paints' ace John Martinez (15-2) in the game.
