The Kelowna Rockets scored late to defeat the Kamloops Blazers 6-5 on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna.

It took until midway through the opening frame but Dillon Dube(31) got Kelowna started finishing off a scramble play in the Blazers crease at 10:51. Then with 1:14 remaining in the period Dube(32) tipped home his second of the stanza on a Rockets power play and Kelowna led 2-0 after 20 minutes.

5:36 into the middle period Conner Bruggen-Cate(17) extended Kelowna's lead to three on another Rockets power play. Jermaine Loewen(32) got Kamloops on the board at 11:04 before Luc Smith(17) cut the Rockets lead to just one 21 seconds later. The Blazers scored a power play marker of their own as Nick Chyzowski(19) evened the game at 3-3. Nolan Kneen(5) made it 4-3 Kamloops with just under three minutes to play and the Rockets trailed by one after 40 minutes.

Leif Mattson(20) scored Kelowna's 13th shorthanded goal of the season to even things up once again at 12:50 of the final stanza, but 21 seconds later Orrin Centazzo(10) regained a one goal lead for the Blazers on the same power play. Carsen Twarynski(38) tied the game at 5-5 on another Kelowna power play at 13:40. Mattson(21) scored his second of the period one-timing a pass from Jack Cowell to give the Rockets a lead with 2:13 to play. Kelowna held on for the 6-5 victory.

The Rockets enjoyed multi-point evenings from Dillon Dube(2G, 1A), Leif Mattson(2G), Conner Bruggen-Cate(1G, 1A), Gordie Ballhorn(2A), and Kole Lind(2A).

Brodan Salmond's record improves to 11-8-0-1 after stopping 23 of the 28 shots he faced. The Rockets out shot the Blazers 37-28.

Kelowna's record improves to 38-18-4-2.

The Rockets will head out on the road for a three game road-trip after this weekends action. The first stop is in Prince George to take on the Cougars Tuesday and Wednesday night, before finishing the trip off in Everett next Friday.

Kelowna returns home again following their three game trip on Saturday, March 3rd when they host Dan Lambert and the Spokane Chiefs at 7:05pm at Prospera Place.
