Rockets Make Trade

November 16, 2009 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Kelowna Rockets News Release

The Kelowna Rockets of the Western Hockey League have acquired scoring forward Geordie Wudrick from the Swift Current Broncos in exchange for import forward Stepan Novotny and prospect Tanner Clark.

Wudrick, 19, joins the Rockets after four seasons with the Swift Current Broncos. Last season the Abbotsford native scored 35 goals and added 22 assists for 57 points with the Broncos. This season Wudrick has eight goals and six assists in the Broncos 24 games.

"We're happy to be able to acquire a player like Geordie Wudrick," said Rockets president and general manager Bruce Hamilton. "He's a high-end player that we think we will get back next year as an overage player as well. He's a big guy and can score goals and we think he will help us."

Wudrick was a second overall WHL bantam draft pick by Swift Current in 2005.

In his second season with Kelowna, Novotny, a native of Prague, Czech Republic, had 14 goals and 11 assists. Clark is currently playing in the SJHL.

The Rockets are back home this week for a Wednesday night game against the Portland Winterhawks. Game time is 7 p.m. at Prospera Place. This weekend the team heads to PRince George for a pair of road games.
