Week in Review:
Tuesday, November 10, 2009 vs. Red Deer Rebels
The Blazers hosted the Rebels for the first time in over two years and were defeated 7-4. The hockey club got off to a quick start as they led 1-0 after the first 10 minutes. The rest of the game was a different story as Red Deer would reply 3 times in the 1st and take a 3-1 1st period lead. The Blazers battled back as Giffen Nyren and Linden Saip scored in the 2nd period to cut the lead to 4-3. The Blazers couldn't complete the comeback though as Red Deer added an empty net goal to defeat the Blazers 7-4. Tyler Shattock had 2 goals and an assist in a losing cause. Justin Leclerc stopped 31 of 37 shots faced as the home team was outshot 38-25. The Blazers were 1-for-3 on the powerplay and 3-for-5 on the penalty kill.
Friday, November 13, 2009 vs. Seattle Thunderbirds
The Blazers and Thunderbirds met for the first time this season, and it is a meeting the Blazers would like to forget as Seattle routed Kamloops 7-2. The Thunderbirds took a 1-0 lead into the first period break. They came back to score early in the 2nd period but Dylan Willick replied shortly after to make it a 2-1 hockey game. The Thunderbirds would score one more to close the 2nd period out with a 3-1 lead. The Blazers were flat in the third and Seattle took it to them as Johnathan Parker added a couple goals to seal the victory. Colin Smith replied for the Blazers in the third period. The Blazers kept the shots low as they were outshot 28-24. Kamloops was 1-for-4 on the powerplay and 4-for-5 on the penalty kill. Jon Groenheyde took the loss stopping 21 of 28 shots.
Saturday, November 14, 2009 vs. Spokane Chiefs
On Saturday, the Blazers travelled to Spokane and couldn't get past the Spokane Chiefs as they lost 6-1. The Blazers kept things close through the first period as Kyle Beach scored twice and Shayne Wiebe replied with a goal of his own from a Colin Smith feed to cut the lead to 2-1 at the break. The Chiefs then opened it up as they scored two goals in the second and third periods, while Kyle Beach finished up with a hat trick, enroute to a 6-1 victory. This was the third consecutive game the Blazers would give up a hat trick to the opposing team. Justin Leclerc was peppered with 48 shots on goal, and finished with 42 saves on the night. The Blazers fired 22 shots on net and James Reid stopped all but one to finish with 21 saves. The Blazers were 0-for-5 on the powerplay and only 4-for-7 on the penalty kill.
On The Road
The hockey club will spend this week on the road as they open a 3-game road trip in Everett on Wednesday. Following the game, the Blazers will play in Seattle on Friday and return to Canada to play the Chilliwack Bruins on Saturday in the Fraser Valley.
