Rockets Knock Down T-Birds

Kelowna, January 25, 2010 - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 4-2 Wednesday night at Prospera Place.

Seattle (14-27-4-4) took a 1-0 lead at 9:47 of the first period on a goal by Burke Gallimore. Brenden Silvester worked the puck out of the left corner up to Ryan Aasman at the point. Aasman put a slap shot on goal that Kelowna goalie Adam Brown kicked into the right circle. Gallimore got to the loose puck and put a quick wrist shot over a lunging Brown for his 15th goal of year.

Kelowna (22-25-2-2) outshot Seattle 9-6 in the first period.

The T-Birds went in front 2-0 at 17:07 of the second period on a power-play goal by Prab Rai. Jeremy Schappert sent the puck from the Seattle zone to Colin Jacobs coming through the neutral zone. Jacobs quickly passed the puck to Rai coming down the left side. Rai carried the puck into the Rockets zone and in alone on Brown. Rai made a quick move to his right around Brown and put the puck into the empty net for his 26th goal of the year.

The Rockets led 22-13 in total shots after two periods by outshooting the T-Birds 13-7 in the second period.

The Rockets cut the T-Birds lead to one goal when Geordie Wudrick scored a power-play goal at 2:52 of the third period. Brandon McMillan and Tyson Barrie had assists on the goal.

Mitchell Callahan tied the game 2-2 for Kelowna with a power-play goal at 4:21 of the third. Wudrick and McMillan assisted on the goal.

The Rockets went in front 3-2 at 11:43 of the third on a power-play goal by Barrie. Shane McColgan and Wudrick had assists on the goal.

Callahan scored a second power-play goal in the third period at 12:39 to give the Rockets a 4-2 lead. Wudrick and Barrie had assists on the goal.

Kelowna outshot Seattle 36-21 in the game.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 32 saves on 36 shots and his record is now 12-23-4-4.

Brown stopped 19 of 21 shots and his record is now 21-15-2-2.

The T-Birds stay on the road and will play the Spokane Chiefs on Friday at 7 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Arena. This game will be broadcast on FSN. The T-Birds then head to Portland to face the Winterhawks on Saturday at 7 p.m.
