Saskatoon Blades News Release

The Saskatoon Blades ended a three-game winless streak on Wednesday evening with a 4-3 overtime victory over the Moose Jaw Warriors at home.

Darian Dziurzynski (Lloydminster, AB), Charles Inglis (Saskatoon, SK), Jyri Niemi (Hameenkyro, Finland), and Marek Viedensky (Handlova, Slovakia) scored for the Blades, who kept pace with the Brandon Wheat Kings for first place in the Eastern Conference with the win.

Saskatoon - 1st - Dziurzynski (Gaelan Patterson, Walker Wintoneak) 4:19 Patterson (Saskatoon, SK) fought past a defender coming into the Warriors zone and put a shot on goaltender Jeff Bosch that was stopped. Dziurzynski jumped on the rebound and hammered home his 8th of the year and it was 1-0.

Saskatoon - 1st - Inglis (Sena Acolatse, Dalton Thrower) 5:16 The Blades went up 2-0 less than a minute later on Inglis' 13th of the season. Acolatse moved in on an odd-man rush into the Warriors zone and had his pass thwarted by a defender. The 17-year-old Inglis grabbed the loose puck, moved wide, and banked it off the goaltender and in.

Saskatoon - 1st - Niemi (Wintoneak, Patterson) 6:27 Niemi made it 3-0 with his 6th marker on the campaign for the Blades. After Patterson won the faceoff, Wintoneak (Flin Flon, MB) left a drop pass for the 19-year-old Finn who let a wrist go that found its way to the back of the net.

Moose Jaw - 2nd - Cody Smuk 17:39 The Warriors got on the board before the middle frame was out on Smuk's 5th of the year. The overage forward moved from the faceoff dot towards the slot and picked a corner to make it 2-1.

Moose Jaw - 3rd - Dylan Hood (Chad Suer)12:30 Hood brought the Tribe within one midway through the third period. After Suer's shot was stopped by Blades goaltender Adam Morrison (White Rock, BC) from the point, Hood hopped on the rebound for his 7th.

Moose Jaw - 3rd - Ryan Stanton (Antonin Honejsek) 14:51 Stanton let a seeing-eye shot go from the point that hit a body in front and snuck past Morrison and suddenly it was a tie game with just over five minutes remaining.

Saskatoon - OT - Viedensky :29 Viedensky picked up the game winner with his 7th of the season and 3rd in a Blades uniform. The Slovak forward attempted a wraparound on his forehand that was denied early in overtime. However, the 19-year-old kept an eye on the puck in the crease and jammed it in to give the Blades the win.

Final score Saskatoon Blades 4, Moose Jaw Warriors 3 (OT).

Morrison made 26 saves in the Blades net to earn the victory. At the Moose Jaw end, Bosch began the game and surrendered 3 goals on 5 shots. Brandon Glover came on and made 34 saves on 35 shots to take the overtime loss.

The Blades improve their record to 33-11-2-3 for 71 points on the season. The Warriors fall to 25-17-4-3 for 57 points.

The Blades return to the ice this weekend with a home-and-home series against the Swift Current Broncos beginning Friday at Credit Union Centre.
