Rockets drop 3-2 OT heart breaker to Chiefs

The Spokane Chiefs defeated the Kelowna Rockets 3-2 in overtime on Wednesday night at Prospera Place.

The first period was slow for both teams and the score remained 0-0 after 1.

Spokane opened the scoring, pulling ahead 2-0 on back to back goals in the middle of the frame. Rodney Southam got the Rockets on the board before the period was out and the score was 2-1 after 40 minutes.

Spokane battened the hatches for most of the third period but the Rockets poured it on late. Riley Stadel scored his fourth of the campaign to even the game at 2-2. Regulation time solved nothing and the game went into overtime.

The overtime period was back and forth but Riley Woods scored to end Kelowna's hopes of completing the comeback.

Michael Herringer fell to 17-9-2-0 on the season.

The Rockets drop to 23-14-3-0 on the year thus far.

The Rockets are back in action on Friday night when they visit neighbouring rival the Kamloops Blazers for the first of a home and home this weekend.

The next home game for Kelowna will be the following evening Saturday, January 7th when they host the Kamloops Blazers at Prospera Place.
