Edmonton Oil Kings News Release

(Edmonton, AB) - Edmonton Oil Kings General Manager Randy Hansch announced today the team has acquired defenceman Conner McDonald, a second-round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, and a fifth-round pick in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft from the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for forward Lane Bauer and a seventh-round pick in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.

McDonald, a 1999-born right-handed defenceman, has collected 13 points (1G, 12A) in 36 games with the Blazers this season. Last year the Delta, BC native appeared in 48 games with Kamloops where he scored a goal and added three assists.

"This gives us the opportunity to acquire a young right-shot defenceman that's starting to mature his game in the league and we look forward to him transitioning into our system," said Hansch.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound blueliner was originally drafted by Kamloops in the second round (24th overall) in 2014 after he put up 49 points (16G, 33A) and 119 penalty minutes with North Shore WC Bantam (PCBHL).

Bauer has 40 points (25G, 15A) in 40 games with the Oil Kings this year. In 230 career WHL games with the Oil Kings, the 20-year-old Bauer has accumulated 176 points (86G, 90A).

"Obviously we would like to thank Lane, his parents and his aunt and uncle for being a part of our organization," said Hansch.

"Lane represented us well and we were very pleased to have watched his growth and development as an Oil King. We wish him all the best."

McDonald will wear jersey number 37 and is expected to join the Oil Kings for their game in Lethbridge.
