
Rockets Defeat \'Tips 5-4, Force Game Seven

Kelowna, B.C. - The Kelowna Rockets scored two third period goals to come from behind and defeat the Silvertips 5-4 Saturday night. Kelowna forces a game seven which will be played at Comcast Arena this Monday March 29th at 7:05 pm. Scott MacDonald, Daniel Iwanski, Byron Froese and Shane Harper scored for Everett. Kent Simpson made 30 save in net for the Silvertips. The WHL Western Conference Quarter-Final best of seven series is tied 3-3.
MacDonald scored Everett's first goal of the night at 4:33 of the first period. Controlling the puck from behind the Kelowna goal line, MacDonald shot the puck off Mark Guggenberger's stick banking the puck past the Kelowna goalie for his second of the playoff's and a 1-0 âTips lead. Shane McColgan tied the game for the Rockets at 18:15. McColgan rushed into the Everett zone, down the left wing, before sending a wrist shot on net that snuck past Simpson to tie the game 1-1. Kelowna led in shots 17-5 after the first period.
Kelowna took their first lead at 6:10 of the second period. Tyson Barrie blasted a hard wrist shot from the right circle going top-shelf, glove side past Simpson for a 2-1 Rockets lead. Cody Ito gave the Rockets a two goal lead with his first of the playoffs at 8:53. Tyler Matheson made a centering pass from the goal line that deflected off an Everett stick and onto Ito's stick before the Kelowna forward went glove side for a 3-1 Kelowna lead. Everett cut Kelowna's lead down to one after Iwanski scored his third of the playoffs at 12:36. Clayton Cumiskey fed the puck to Curtis Kulchar at the right point before the Everett defenseman took a hard wrist shot on net and got a deflection from Iwanski in front. The Silvertips tied the game on the power play with Froese's third of the playoffs at 18:45. Froese shot the puck from just right of the net before pushing home a loose puck in the crease to tie the game 3-3. Everett regained the lead 62 seconds later with Harper collecting his team leading sixth goal of the playoffs. Capitalizing on the power play, Harper collected a rebound after Guggenberger made a save on a Zack Dailey point shot to give Everett a 4-3 lead at the end of the second period.
Barrie tied the game for the Rockets firing a hard slap shot from the right point at 9:11 of the third period on the power play. Lucas Bloodoff regained the lead for Kelowna just 22 seconds later beating Simpson on a wrap around at 9:33 giving the Rockets a 5-4 lead. Simpson was pulled for an extra attacker but Everett was unable to score as Kelowna held on to a 5-4 victory.
Game Seven takes place in Everett this Monday night March 29th for a 7:05 pm puck drop. The winner will advance to the WHL Western Conference Semi-Finals.
