
Silvertips Shut Out Rockets 4-0, Lead Series 3-2

Everett, WA - Kent Simpson collected his first career WHL playoff shutout as the Silvertips defeated the Kelowna Rockets 4-0 Friday night at Comcast Arena. Simpson stopped all 21 shots faced to earn second star of the night. Tyler Maxwell was selected first star of the game after picking up his first two goals of the playoffs. Shane Harper and Daniel Iwanski rounded out the scoring for Everett. The Silvertips lead the WHL Western Conference Quarter-Final best of seven series 3-2. Everett travels to Kelowna for game six Saturday night at 7:00 pm.
Everett came out to a strong start producing four shots in the first minute of play which led to the Silvertips first goal of the night. Maxwell collected his first goal of the 2010 WHL playoffs collecting a rebound on top of the crease from a Rasmus Rissanen shot from the point. Maxwell beat Mark Guggenberger blocker side at 1:00 to give Everett a 1-0 lead. The Silvertips led in shots 13-10 after the first period.
The Silvertips took a 2-0 lead after Iwanski scored at 2:01 of the second period. Ryan Murray fired a slap shot from the left point before Iwanski collected the rebound in front of the crease and beat Guggenberger under his right arm. Maxwell earned his second goal of the night shorthanded at 11:00. Maxwell broke up a Kelowna pass at the Everett blue line before going off on a breakaway and beating Guggenberger five-hole on his back hand for a 3-0 Everett lead. Everett led 25-17 in shots after 40 minutes of play.
The Silvertips extended their lead to 4-0 with a Harper power play goal at the just 32 seconds into the third period. The goal was Harper's team leading fifth of the playoffs. Simpson stopped all 21 Kelowna shots faced to help lead Everett to a 4-0 victory.
Everett heads to Kelowna for game six of the WHL Western Conference Quarter Finals Saturday night March 27th at 7:00 pm. Game seven if necessary will come back to Everett this Monday night March 29th for a 7:05 pm puck drop.
