
Spokane Falls Down 3-2 in Series

Ryan Johansen's second goal of the night 8:26 into the third period proved to be the game winner as the Portland Winterhawks held on for a 4-3 victory to take a 3-2 lead over the Chiefs in their best of seven of the Western Conference Quarterfinals.
For the fifth straight game, Portland would strike first as Stefan Schneider fed Riley Boychuk for his first goal of the series just 1:14 into the contest. Just before the end of the first period, Portland increased their lead to two moments after going on the power play. Luke Walker took a feed from Eric Doyle at 17:48 for the goal. Chris Francis also assisted on the play.
Spokane outshot Portland13-10 in the first period.
Portland would get their second power play goal of the night when Ryan Johansen's shot slipped through the five-hole of James Reid. Troy Rutkowski and Taylor Aronson assisted on the goal.
Jared Cowen would get Spokane on the board with his first goal of the playoffs 6:08 into the third period. Cowen put in a rebound off a Mitch Wahl shot beneath the pads of Mac Carruth to bring the Chiefs within two. Just over a minute later Portland would score as Johansen would capitalize on a bad bounce in the Spokane end to put the Winterhawks up 4-1.
Mitch Wahl would bring the Chiefs within two at 13:07 as he took a Kyle Beach feed from behind the net to score his second of the playoffs. Corbin Baldwin also assisted on the play. The Chiefs would finish off the scoring at 19:28 shortly after Spokane pulled goalie James Reid. Kyle Beach scored his fifth of the playoffs as Stefan Ulmer assisted on the play.
Spokane outshot Portland 39-30 for the night and finished 1-6 on the power play. Portland was 2-3 on the man advantage.
Game six will be Monday at Portland's Rose Garden. Mike Boyle will go on the air at 6:30 with Comcast Hockey Tonight on 1510 KGA.
