Toronto Rock News Release
TORONTO - Goaltender Bob Watson, defender Peter Lough and Captain Jim Veltman have been selected to represent the Toronto Rock as players on the East All-Star team this year. The 2008 NLL All-Star Game will be played at the Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta on Sunday, March 16th at 4:00 p.m. EST.
With a .781 save percentage and a goals against average of 10.51, Watson is above his career averages and sits second in overall goaltending statistics. Watson, making this fourth All-Star appearance, has already been named NLL Defensive Player of the Week twice this season. He earned the NLL top weekly defensive honours for the week of January 14th when he held the Edmonton Rush to only nine goals and recorded 37 saves in the Rock's 14-9 win and was recognized for his role in the 11-8 win over the Buffalo Bandits on February 15th by stopping 45 of 53 shots.
Peter Lough, a new addition to the Rock this season has already made a huge impact early on by leading the Rock in looseballs with 53 and a contributing winning face-off average of over 51%. Peter's biggest game of the season came last weekend when he tallied 2 points (1 goal, 1 assist), 14 looseballs and was 15-20 from the face-off circle. Lough will be appearing in his fifth All-Star game this year.
Although Rock veteran and six time NLL All-Star Jim Veltman has missed two games due to an injury this year, he is the third addition from the Rock roster to the 2008 East Division team. Veltman, who remains the NLL looseballs leader and defensive specialist for the Rock has 43 looseballs this season and 6 points (3 goals, 3 assists).
Nine East Division All-Star reserves were selected by head coach Ed Comeau (Rochester) and assistant coach Darris Kilgour (Buffalo), and nine West Division All-Star reserves were selected by head coach Bob Hamley (Edmonton) and assistant coach Walt Christianson (San Jose). Three reserves for each division were appointed by the league.
The Rock (4-3) host the Calgary Roughnecks (3-5) this weekend at the Air Canada Centre on Saturday March 1st at 7:00 p.m. EST.
